Ryan's toronto report

Toronto was a blast. I flew in on firday, took the bus (very long ride) to the subway (ride the rocket!) then walked to my hotel. Checking in used my free Internet and walked out 2pm. I around the tip of downtown, form their I walked all the way down the harbor and back. Which took about 5 hours. Yes, I could of taken a trolley, or a taxi, but I wanted to see and feel the city. Coming from NYC, I walk a lot and threw walking I feel connected to the people, and get a feel of thing. As you will see in the photos I walked to all the big “touristy” places.

Little things I noticed.

  1. A lot of donut shops.
  2. A lot of tress the city felt very green.
  3. I saw a lot of people wearing Velcro shoes. (Young and old)
  4. The city is very clean.
  5. Their homeless people are very hip, young, and good-looking. Unlike our NYC ones that are smelling and scary.
  6. The city was over run with black squirrels
  7. All garbage cans are recycling cans, slots for paper, bottle and glass. So they must have a good recycling system, which is great! I know Tokyo is like this.
  8. Toronto has it’s own little Times Square kinda place.
  9. It was sat night and everyone was out walking, it reminded me of NYC
  10. It felt safe!

Ok, Now that I had seen most of the city it was on to Kean’s dinner of comic superstars!

I was the 3 person to show up. I lucky recognized Hope who was exhausted and sitting on the step of the restaurant. Then she introduced me to Lucy and we talked about making mini-comics. Then Kean shows up and the party starts! More and more people show up, all of whom I don’t know, and then Matt showed up! I really like his art, so it was great to talk to him; he’s an interesting fellow. So interesting I ended up taking with him, hope and Lucy for the rest of evening. (Ok, I went and talked to Andy ruton, Kean, raina, and Dave (who I feel like I stalking). I had lamb pizza it was good. Then Kalman joined our table and the party got started!

After we rounded up the money to pay the bill, we headed out to an outdoor bar. I got a chance to talk to Andy ruton more, which was great! He told me his theory on selling comic and it was very insightful.

But by this point I’d been up for around 17 hours and walking for more than 5 of those and I still had to walk back to the hotel.

I never sleep well in a new place, so I didn’t sleep well that night, but I did have a great view of downtown from my “patio” on the 4 the floor.

The next day was me sitting behind a table all day. The fun part was meeting some of flight crew. Johane and kazu were both amazing! It was in a tent and there was a Big gym next to us that had this BIG old mural of women working out that was pretty funny to see.

Anyways I talk and talked, signed some autographs and meet a lot of people. Jeff smith gave a talk and since we were in the tent I saw it 2! Once on sat then again on sun. I gave him a kimbly mini-comic!

Sunday I met Rich Stevens, and was a super geek. I gave him a mix cd, and today’s comic is about mix cd’s (am I getting sassed?) Vera was there also.

Derek Kirk Kim had this crazy watch that spoke Japanese.

Then I left early with my ride.

Once home I realized I had no pictured of Kean, or amy. Sorry guys!

I went with my friend Steve and we headed to Rochester. I was renting a car and driving back to NYC, because I still had A LOT of stuff in his attic that I need to get out. Steve and his wife biffy have a kid named Isabel, which I hadn’t met yet. She was SUEPr cute a lot of giggly fun. Here are some photos. I also had some KICK azz chicken wings!

Monday got the car left Rochester at 11, got home at 7:30, unloaded the car, then returned the car, which was tricky. Then I got on the wrong bus to get home, but I managed to figure it out, and got home. Ordered some Chinese food and went to bed.

I’m very tired today, but the trip was life changing and great! I world is amazing!

ps. I wore the same pants for 4 days!

pps. also there is a pciture of one of my puppets, the wzzel pipple who!
